Customer Case Study - Monkfield Nutrition

GH Consulting complete Warehouse Review & Optimisation of new facility

Warehouse Review & Optimisation of new facilityFor over 25 years, Monkfield Nutrition has been a market leader in the breeding of live reptile food. During this time, they have set up an extensive reptile captive breeding programme, the largest European rodent farm, and introduced a full range of reptile equipment including innovative own brand products.

"Phillip Beckham of Gideon Hillman gained a great understanding of what we wanted to achieve, and provided plans that exactly met our requirements, using his own wealth of experience. Phillip was a pleasure to deal with and worked very quickly and efficiently. His final design saved us money in the warehouse build, hence he more than covered the consultancy fee." Monkfield Nutrition - Managing Director.

Monkfield Nutrition acquired a new operational site due to continued business success and a recent business acquisition. Gideon Hillman Consulting were subsequently approached by Monkfield, due to their knowledge and expertise, to ensure this new facility was optimised for future requirements.

Supplying single site independent, and multi-site national retailers, throughout the UK; The Logistics Specialists at Gideon Hillman Consulting conducted an initial independent review of Monkfield’s current facility, focussing on their operational processes, including goods receipt, goods storage, pick/pack, goods despatch and returns, and value added flows.

To correctly design Monkfield’s new facility, The GH team had to optimise the layouts, workflows and operational procedures within Monkfield’s existing premises. The GH team were required to understand Monkfield’s operation and the future growth plans by reviewing specific requirements, including but not limited to: Product flows, seasonal fluctuations, inventory management, and growth projections against Monkfield’s agreed planning horizon.

Following their review, the Supply Chain and Warehouse Specialist Consultants at Gideon Hillman Consulting, provided Monkfield with draft CAD drawings of the proposed design layouts for all internal warehouse and operational areas for their new facility, showing consideration for all storage media where relevant and appropriate to the new facility, including shelving and racking amenities.

Gideon Hillman Consulting’s CAD drawings for the new warehouse adhered to further requirements for the new Monkfield facility including design layouts for all work areas, for processes including goods receipt, picking, packing, marshalling and in-bound and out-loading operations.

The Logistics and Supply Chain Specialists presented Monkfield with draft CAD drawings of the optimised new facility for approval and review, to ensure that no commercial or operational constraints were present; prior to approval of the final drawings from the Monkfield management team themselves.

In addition to providing CAD design layout information, Gideon Hillman Consulting were also responsible for obtaining budget costings for all new storage media, including costings for supply and installation into the new facility.

Gideon Hillman Consulting enabled Monkfield to optimise the layouts, workflows and operational procedures for their new facility; by providing recommendations for storage requirements and equipment costs; showing simultaneous consideration of growth projections for Monkfield’s agreed planning horizon.

With the help of the Logistics and Supply Chain Specialists at Gideon Hillman Consulting, Monkfield successfully planned their complete business transfer process from their current location to their new fully optimised operational facility; whilst simultaneously developing their strategy for warehouse processes for future growth.
