Southampton Cargo Handling - Customer Case Study

Warehouse Operational Improvement Project

Southampton Cargo Handling Limited (SCH) is a leading stevedore services company, based in the Port of Southampton.  They operate a portfolio of services which includes most aspects of turn around management, RoRo, Cruise and Project work.

They have specialised facilities to handle any cargo size up to 250 tonnes; the loading and discharging of tens of thousands of cars per year; an advanced track and trace IT system enabling customers to locate their cargoes easily; warehousing with customs approval and secure open storage.

Gideon Hillman Consulting were tasked with reviewing SCH’s warehouse operations, to include all activities; layouts; workflows; staffing; systems and processes, in order to optimise their service to clients.

Once the Warehouse Team of Gideon Hillman Consulting had reviewed the facility and its operation, recommendations were offered to SCH enabling them to fully utilise their existing capacity by the installation of pallet racking to increase storage density, thus resulting in an increased floor space to be used for product breakdown, order collation and pick/pack operations.

"Gideon Hillman Consulting carried out a thorough review and we have implemented the recommendations to ensure we optimise our resources and maximise our warehousing capabilities." Director - SCH
