Hallis Hudson - Customer Case Study

Hallis Hudson enlists the support of Specialist Logistics Consultants

Hallis Hudson enlists the support of Specialist Logistics Consultants at Gideon Hillman Consulting

A family owned business based in Preston, Hallis Hudson group is dedicated to providing a professional and friendly service. Built up over two generations, Hallis Hudson use their specialised knowledge to provide all types of ‘off the shelf’ and bespoke customer specific window coverings.

The Hallis Hudson warehouse holds a major stockholding of tens of thousands of window furnishing products including fabrics & wallpapers, tiebacks, holdbacks & trims, linings, workroom essentials, child safety, blinds, tracks, complete poles, mix & match poles and specialist poles.

Each Internal Account Manager has access to a computerised stock ordering and delivery system linked directly to the warehouse; and it is this investment in personnel, technology and stock that provides Hallis Hudson's customers the opportunity for "one-stop shopping" for their entire window furnishing needs. As soon as an order is placed, a despatch note is printed in the warehouse where the goods are picked, packed and despatched the same day.

Such a hub of activity, Hallis Hudson’s warehouse building had become a restriction to the growing business; so, upon requiring a review of their Warehouse Layout and Design, the Hallis Hudson Management team enlisted the support of The Specialist Logistics and Supply Chain Consultants at Gideon Hillman Consulting.

Hallis Hudson required to be advised upon recommendations concerning the layout and design of their current warehouse to further aid their growing business plans, and ultimately enable them to extend their bespoke services.

Gideon Hillman Consulting spent two days on site, to review Hallis Hudson’s routine business activities and future plans. The Specialist Consultants conducted a review of their warehouse processes, including but not limited to product flows and volumes, despatch procedures, inventory management and order cut-off times.

Following their site visit, The Specialist Warehouse and Logistics Consultants reviewed the plans and provided Hallis Hudson with recommendations for the optimal utilisation of available space, with a view to increasing operational efficiency.

Gideon Hillman Consulting provided Hallis Hudson with recommendations for optimised designs for their new warehouse facility considering Hallis Hudson’s specific current and future volumes and the agreed planning horizon.

Hallis Hudson subsequently requested Gideon Hillman Consulting, to conduct an additional phase of work to carry out an evaluation of potential vendors, to enable the site fit-out to be completed.
