Electrium – Customer Case Study

GH Consulting Perform Warehouse Operations Review for Electrium

ElectriumElectrium Sales Limited (Electrium) are one of the UK’s main electrical groups, supplying low voltage products for the domestic market and switchgear for the industrial sector.

Over the past few years Electrium have made a number of significant business process improvements and have restructured their core operations to reflect changing business demands, these changes have provided significant cost savings.

Within Electrium’s warehouse facility, a range of different storage equipment systems are employed, including standard pallet racking, VNA pallet storage, carton live picking shelves and bulk floor storage.

Electrium required assistance with their business objectives and engaged the services of The Warehouse and Logistics Consultants at Gideon Hillman Consulting to enable them to achieve maximum efficiencies to support their operations. The key objectives and scope of this project required the Logistics Consultants team to review Electrium’s operational processes and procedures, and identify potential areas for improvement.

The Logistics Consultants carried out an initial review of goods receipt, storage, pick/pack, despatch and returns, and presented the report of their findings to the Electrium management team. The report highlighted key findings and recommendations for improvements. The Supply Chain Specialists at Gideon Hillman Consulting also reviewed Electrium’s Warehouse Management System (WMS) to help to determine whether it supported both current and future business requirements.

To comprehensively understand Electrium’s operation, and provide solutions for fully optimised capability and efficiency of their whole facility, the Gideon Hillman Consulting Specialist Consultant team, were required to identify and review a number of processes, including but not limited to product flow, volumes and seasonal fluctuation, increased product lines, returns handling, and slow moving and obsolete stock policy.

Following this, the Logistics and Supply Chain Specialists provided recommendations for optimising facility layouts with consideration to workflows, marshalling and despatch areas; including but not limited to identifying bottle necks and making recommendations for mitigation accordingly; whilst taking into account growth projections.

Guided by The Logistics and Supply Chain Consultants at Gideon Hillman Consulting, Electrium successfully introduced and integrated the proposed optimised solutions into their warehouse operations; whilst simultaneously, prioritising improvements in order of ease of implementation and business benefit, with consideration to their specified growth margins for a three, five and ten year planning horizon.
