CitySprint - Customer Case Study

GH Consulting conduct WMS supplier selection

warehouse management system, supplier selection, warehouse consultants

From the work already carried out by Gideon Hillman Consulting (GH) in the development of a WMS operational requirement specification and obtaining costs from five potential suppliers; CitySprint wished to improve upon thier warehouse processes, and determine their preferred partner and system to progress with and implement accordingly.

The GH team of Specialist Logistics Consultants conducted this project in two strategic phases. Under the scope of this project, the Gideon Hillman Consulting team of Specialist Warehouse and Logistics Consultants were required to: firstly, work with CitySprint to identify their preferred supplier and agree commercial terms, and secondly, simultaneously support CitySprint with the Project management of their system implementation.

Stage one of this project, consisted of reviewing the five potential suppliers, to agree defined system requirements (including how many depot installations), the system and supplier selection criteria and the preferred commercial terms.

Following this selection, the Gideon Hillman consulting team were then able to identify against the selection criteria two suppliers with which to proceed to the next step of the selection process.

From here, the two suppliers were required to meet with CitySprint, to demonstrate their operation, and interface requirements within CitySprint’s CityTrack system; following this, CitySprint visited the two suppliers in turn, on site, to establish how their systems work, and to distinguish if they were relevant and suitable for CitySprint’s requirements.

The final element of stage one involved the GH team managing a tender process for CitySprint with regards to the two potential suppliers, after which the Specialist Logistics and Warehouse Consultants provided CitySprint with a comparative analysis of the two suppliers, of which were presented to CitySprint with recommendations as to the most suitable supplier.

Stage two occurred once CitySprint had successfully concluded negotiations and had signed a contract with their chosen system supplier. Throughout stage two, the Gideon Hillman Consulting team provided CitySprint with the following guidance to manage this project: a Steering Committee – as defined by CitySprint; a detailed time plan with RACI matrix for all key tasks; regular project reviews with joint project team (CitySprint and supplier); periodic reviews with the Steering Committee and milestone presentations’ and register capturing all risks, assumptions and limitations associated with the implementation.

By conducting this project for tender, The Gideon Hillman Consulting team of Specialist Logistics and Warehouse Consultants, successfully enabled CitySprint to determine, and partner with, their chosen system supplier whilst simultaneously providing CitySprint with support throughout the system implementation against their agreed project plan.
