Bryson Products Ltd Case Study

The Supply Chain Consulting Group complete Warehouse Review for Bryson

Bryson was established in 1974 and has grown rapidly ever since, tripling in size in the last 5 years. The business is still managed by the original family that founded it and has grown due to providing a very high level of service, quality products and dedication to their customers’ needs, providing an extensive range of over 6,000 items to the construction industry.

Bryson provide an extensive range of, fixings and components, sundries, safety and welfare items, site protection materials, hand tools, power tools and attachments, to the construction industry, including shop fittings for retail sales outlets. Bryson add new product lines at a rate of circa 5% per year. The current range of materials consists of a 95% procurement from UK vendors.

Bryson is the leading importer, manufacturer and distributor of fixings, temporary protection and safety products, focused on fast, direct supply to Retail and Leisure Fit-out Contractors across the UK.

Bryson’s current warehouse and storage facilities consist of a warehouse with a mezzanine floor. A new 5,000sq.ft. Warehouse was completed in 2014 for the larger items and this replaces an external tented storage facility; the limited external yard area is also used for storage of certain ranges of materials.

Bryson were looking to move their warehouse and distribution operations from their current site in Coulsdon to a new purpose designed facility. The scope for the new warehouse was required to meet Bryson’s operational requirements for the next three to five years expected business growth.

Due to Bryson having a diverse range of products, there were a number of issues to be considered in order to determine the correct facility size, including the range and types of Storage Media and Materials Handling Equipment (MHE) required.

Recognising these issues, Bryson engaged the Logistics and Warehouse Specialist Consultants, at The Supply Chain Consulting Group (SCCG), to successfully guide and complete their project.

An initial site visit enabled the SCCG team to agree the project approach, timetable, key milestones, roles and responsibilities, as well as having an overview of Bryson’s business activities and future-plans.

Under the scope of this project, SCCG were required to properly identify and develop a facility sizing, review optimised layouts, workflows and operational procedures; and to review Bryson’s current facility processes to understand the operation and develop the future state.

Throughout this project, the SCCG team ensured that the correct information was used for the draft design of Bryson’s new facility, and the decisions made considered their current and future product types and material flows, which was able to be used against Bryson’s forecasted growth.

“The consultants at The Supply Chain Consulting Group adopted a logical and meticulous approach to our project; we were very impressed with their knowledge, expertise, and approachability, and their dedication to not only conducting, but finishing our project to the highest standards.” Head of Commercial – Bryson Products Ltd
