Kite supplies packaging and provides packaging solutions to its customers mainly in industry throughout the UK through 4 main specialist divisions operating out of 6 sites across the UK:
- Magnapack supplies the most competitively priced bulk stock product in very large volumes on longer lead times.
- The Packaging Store is the web-based operation serving smaller business users and members of the public.
- Kite Environmental Solutions operates a Packaging Regulations Compliance Scheme.
- Kite Automated Solutions focuses on machinery used for packing goods.
Due to the continuous and significant growth of the Kite Packaging business the management team engaged the SWAT Team (Specialist Warehouse Assistance Team) at Gideon Hillman Consulting to develop and ensure that the operational resources at the Coventry depot (the largest of the 6 UK depots) are optimised for current and future operational requirements for the next 36 months.
The consultants successfully delivered the optimised design for warehouse and picking / despatch facility layouts to service the growth expectations over the next 12 to 36 months.
This included the provision of scale CAD drawings showing rack and equipment layouts and defined work areas, a full bill of equipment required for suppliers to quote against (including budget costs for reconfiguration of existing racking as well as supplying additional equipment) and an MHE requirement list (Hand truck, FLT, reach truck, order pickers etc).
A set of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) for all aspects of warehouse, picking & packing and dispatch operations to optimise the new facility layout.
A review of the current transport and distribution operation was carried out and found to be optimised in terms of cost and efficiency for the business.
